Titicaca lake - Isla del Sol J+160/161

Après une très courte nuit dans le bus, nous arrivons à Puno à 4h30 du matin. Il ne s’agit que d’une escale pour nous car nous prenons un autre bus pour Copacabana. Et oui, Copacabana mais pas la célèbre plage où nous étions il y a quelques jours mais une petite ville au bord du lac Titicaca côté bolivien. Nous traversons donc la frontière aujourd’hui et nous disons au revoir au Pérou. Nous avons beaucoup aimé ce pays et nous espérons que la Bolivie sera tout autant fantastique. Copacabana est une ville plus petite que ce à quoi nous nous attendions. On trouve tout de même un petit restaurant pour un petit déjeuner avant de prendre le bateau pour notre destination finale du jour : Isla del sol. Il s’agit d’une île au beau milieu du lac Titicaca. La traversée est longue (1h30) mais on est tout de suite conquis par la vue magnifique du lac. On débarque à Yumani, le village le plus au sud de l’île et le moins que l’on puisse dire c’est que ça grimpe sec. Le lac se situe à environ 3'800 m alors la montée jusqu’au sommet du village avec les gros sacs sur le dos se fait lentement, très lentement. On arrive enfin à notre hébergement : une petite cabane privative avec une vue exceptionnelle sur le lac Titicaca et sur la cordillère des Andes en arrière-plan : vraiment magnifique ! On pose les sacs et on part à la découverte de cette île. On monte jusqu’à la crête où l’on a une vue sur l’autre côté de l’île très sauvage. On marche jusqu’à la pointe de l’île et on rentre tranquillement à notre cabane pour s’habiller un peu plus chaudement car la nuit va bientôt tomber et elle s’annonce fraiche. On trouve un restaurant qui propose des pizzas avec une très belle vue. Un véritable moment comme on les aime arrosé d’une bonne bouteille de vin bolivien à la lueur d’une bougie.

Nous avons passé une très bonne nuit de 12h, on en avait besoin après les deux nuits précédentes. On se réveille malheureusement avec une drôle de surprise, c’est la tempête à l’extérieur de notre petit havre de paix. Les nuages ont envahis le ciel, le vent s’est levé, le lac est démonté et il pleut. On se dit que marcher toute la journée par ce temps ne sera vraiment pas une partie de plaisir, surtout qu’il fait froid. On renonce donc, heureusement que la veille nous avions bien profité du paysage. On reprend le bateau pour Copacabana aves une forte houle. Le bateau tangue pas mal et tout le monde n’a pas le pied marin… Pour nous cela se passe bien. A Copacabana le soleil est revenu. On déjeune une excellente truite du lac et on attrape le bus qui nous mène à La Paz. La route le long du lac est vraiment très belle, on profite d’une vue imprenable sur les montagnes. On descend du bus à San Pedro de Tiquina pour traverser en bateau le lac Titicaca qui se rétrécit à cet endroit. Le bus nous récupère de l’autre côté après avoir traversé lui aussi sur une petite barge. On arrive en fin d’après-midi à La Paz et la ville nous parait tentaculaire ! Nous trouvons une place dans un dortoir et allons diner dans un bon restaurant indien, ça change. Le poulet au curry et les nans sont vraiment délicieux.

After a very short night in the bus, we arrive in Puno at 4:30 am. This is only a stopover for us as we take another bus to Copacabana. It is not the famous beach where we were a few days ago but a small town by the lake Titicaca Bolivian side. We cross the border today and say goodbye to Peru. We really enjoyed this country and hope that Bolivia will be just as fantastic. Copacabana is a smaller city than we expected. We still find a small restaurant for breakfast before taking the boat to our final destination of the day: Isla del sol. It is an island in the middle of Lake Titicaca. The boat trip is long (1h30) but we are immediately amazed by the magnificent view of the lake. We landed in Yumani, the most southern village of the island and the least we can say is that it is very steep. The lake is about 3'800m so the climb to the top of the village with our big backpacks is slow, very slow. We finally arrive at our accommodation: a small private hut with an exceptional view on the Lake Titicaca and the Andes in the background: truly magnificent! We let our staff there and go to the discovery of this island by foot. We climb up to the ridge where we have a view on the other side of the island which is very wild. We walk to the south point of the island and then get back to our hut to dress a little more warmly because the night will soon fall and it promises to be fresh. We found a restaurant that offers pizzas with a beautiful view. A real moment as we love them with a good bottle of Bolivian wine by the light of a candle.

We had a very good night of 12 hours, we needed it after the two previous nights. We wake up unfortunately with a bad surprise: it's the storm outside in our little haven. The clouds have invaded the sky, the wind has risen, the lake is dismantled and it is raining. Walking all day with this weather will not really be fun, especially since it is cold. Fortunately, the day before we had taken advantage of the good weather. As such, we decide to take the boat back to Copacabana with a strong swell. The boat is pitching a lot and not everybody feel good... For us it goes well. In Copacabana the sun is back. We had a great trout from the lake and we catch the bus that takes us to La Paz. The road along the lake is really beautiful, we enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains. We go down the bus at San Pedro de Tiquina to cross by boat the lake Titicaca which shrinks at this place. The bus picks us up again on the other side after crossing the lake on a small barge. We arrive in the end of the afternoon in La Paz and the city seems to us sprawling! We find a place in a dormitory and dine in a good Indian restaurant, it changes. The chicken curry and the nans are really delicious.
