Quebrada de Humahuaca J+182/183

Réveil un peu matinal car pas mal de route nous attend. En effet, on commence par 2h de trajet ! dans la forêt tropicale. La route est étroite mais offre des paysages vraiment très beaux et la faune y est abondante. On arrive à San Salvador de Jujuy, l’extrémité sud de cette vallée avec des paysages extraordinaires. Il nous reste encore 1h de route pour atteindre Tilcara, notre point de chute pour la nuit. On y dépose les valises et on fait un petit tour de la ville. Au marché, on trouve quelques fruits et empanadas locaux, parfaits pour notre pause déjeuner !. L’après-midi, on reprend la route pour atteindre le mirador d’Hornocal et son point de vue exceptionnel sur la montagne aux 14 couleurs. On est à plus de 4'000 m d’altitude alors forcément le moindre petit effort devient difficile. On marche tout de même un petit peu mais la montée du retour est un peu raide… On croise quelques bicougnas qui nous font le spectacle d’un beau sprint (ceux-là ils ne souffrent pas de l’altitude…). On redescend dans la vallée et on s’arrête sur la route au village d’Humahuaca . Cette petite ville très charmante impressionne avec son monument de l’indépendance. On termine la journée dans un restaurant très sympathique avec ses tables rustiques à la lueur de la bougie. Guillaume et Thomas en profitent même pour tester la viande de lama.

Le lendemain, ! le petit déjeuner est copieux et on essaye aussi les pâtisseries au dulce de leche. Ce matin, direction le village reculé d’Iruya. On roule pendant 1h vers le nord en direction de la Bolivie toute proche puis on quitte l’asphalte pour 2h de route sur de la piste en gravier. On traverse même quelques guets sans aucun souci avec le 4x4. On arrive en fin de matinée et on grimpe jusqu’au mirador qui surplombe le village pour profiter de la vue plongeante sur la vallée et les montagnes taillées par l’érosion. On se promène un petit peu et on prend le soleil en terrasse autour d’un verre et de quelques empanadas au fromage. C’est déjà le moment de prendre la route du retour. On essaye même de se diriger vers un volcan mais la piste est assez mauvaise et nous décidons donc de faire demi-tour… On rentre tranquillement à Tilcara et on change d’hébergement.

Wake up early because we have lot of road to do. Indeed, we begin with 2 hours of road in the rainforest. It is narrow but it offers very beautiful scenery and the fauna is abundant there. Then, we arrive at San Salvador de Jujuy, the southern end of this valley with extraordinary landscapes. We still have 1 hour drive to do to reach Tilcara which is our destination for the night. We drop the suitcases and took a short tour of the city. We find some fruits and local empanadas at the market which are perfect for our lunch. In the afternoon, we take the car to reach the Hornocal viewpoint and its exceptional view on the 14-color mountain. Since it is located at more at than 4'000 m, every effort seems quite difficult. We walk a little bit but the climb back is steep ... We meet some bicougnas which make the show of a beautiful sprint (they seems not to suffer to much from altitude ...). Then, we go down into the valley and stop at the village of Humahuaca. This very charming little town impresses with its monument of independence. We end the day in a very nice restaurant with its rustic tables by the candlelight in which Guillaume and Thomas take the opportunity to test llama meat.

The breakfast is very consistent this morning and we also have the chance to try the pastries made with dulce de leche. This morning, we head to the remote village of Iruya. We drive north for 1 hour in direction of the Bolivian border and then we leave the asphalt for 2 hours on the dirt track. We even go through some river without any concern with the 4x4. We arrive in Iruya at the end of the morning and climb up to the viewpoint overlooking the village to enjoy the view over the valley and the mountains pruned by erosion. We walk a little and enjoy the sun on a terrace with few ice cold beverages and cheese empanadas. This is already time to take the road back. We even try to head for a volcano but the track is rather bad and we decide not to go there... Once arrived in Tilcara, we pick up our luggage and find a new accommodation for the night.
