Notre premier jour en Australie commence dans la capitale culturelle du pays. On se balade dans les rues et comme à Auckland en Nouvelle Zélande, on se croirait presque dans une grande ville des Etats-Unis à un détail près : ici aussi on roule à gauche. Nous nous promenons dans les rues animées de la ville et arrivons au Federation Square qui est la place pavée au cœur de la ville. C’est là qu’on lieu tous les rassemblements, manifestations, évènements ou célébrations. Nous traversons le pont qui lui fait face pour rejoindre le Royal Botanic Gardens. Il s’agit d’un parc immense où des perroquets en ont fait leur terrain de jeu. Aux détours des allées, on tombe sur Shrine of Remembrance, le mémorial des deux guerres mondiales. Nous avons tendance à ne pas y penser mais les deux guerres qui ont eues l’Europe comme champs de bataille ont mobilisées des hommes partout dans le monde y compris en Australie et en Nouvelle Zélande. Nous avons visité le mémorial ainsi que le musée qui retrace l’histoire de ces deux guerres avec émotion. Au déjeuner, comme nous avions tous les deux envie de sushis, on trouve un bar à sushis vraiment délicieux mais pas comparable à celui d’El Calafate.

L’après-midi, nous longeons les berges et prenons le vieux tramway faisant le tour du centre-ville. Nous descendons près de ce qu’on pensait être une librairie mais qui est en fait une bourse aux livres. Nous ne trouvons pas le guide que nous étions venus chercher mais quelques DVD à $1 biens pratiques pour notre road trip à venir (dont «Rien à déclarer» le film de Dany Boon !). Nous terminons la journée avec un chocolat chaud parce que, malgré qu’on soit en Australie, c’est l’hiver ici et il ne fait pas très chaud (environ 12° au meilleur de la journée).

Our first day in Australia begins in the cultural capital of the country. We stroll through the streets and as in Auckland, New Zealand, it almost feels like a big city in the United States with one detail: here we also drive to the left. We walk through the busy streets of the city and arrive at Federation Square, which is the cobblestone square in the heart of the city. This is where all gatherings, events, events or celebrations are held. We cross the bridge facing it to join the Royal Botanic Gardens. It is a huge park where parrots have made their playground. At the turns of the alleys, one comes across Shrine of Remembrance, the memorial of the two world wars. We tend not to think about it, but the two wars that have taken Europe as a battleground have mobilized men all over the world including Australia and New Zealand. We visited the memorial as well as the museum that traces the history of these two wars with emotion. At lunch, as we both wanted sushi, we found a sushi bar really delicious but not comparable to El Calafate.

In the afternoon, we go along the banks and take the old tram going around the city center. We go down to what we thought was a bookstore but actually a book exchange. We do not find the guide that we came to look for but some DVDs with $ 1 practical goods for our road trip to come (including "Nothing to declare" the film of Dany Boon!). We ended the day with a hot chocolate because, despite being in Australia, it's winter here and it is not very hot (about 12 ° at the best of the day).
